KUNSTEN ,WETENSCHAPPEN en REGIMES

 Als je in de bijdragen aan de site kijkt in Automobility in Transition?  (2011)dan wordt daar het ‘transitiekundige’ begrippentrio ‘niche’, ’regime’ en ‘landscape’ gebruikt. ‘Regime’ wekte mijn aandacht, want in de oudste bijdrage aan deze site:   Spatial Behavior; Concepts and Contexts van Claus Heidemann  (1981!) is ‘regime’ ook een van de sleutelbegrippen ( lees dat eens!).  Daar ging het over de institutionele regelingen van verplaatsingsmogelijkheden, opgedeeld in Tijd (dienstregelingen, openingstijden, deadlines etc.), Middelen (geld, vergunningen, toegangsbewijzen),Informatie (feitelijk: wegwijzers, spoorboekjes  en normatief: wetten, voorschriften).

Dit zette mij op de speurtocht naar het gebruik van het begrip REGIME in de huidige mobilistiek. Nou, dat was geen minuut te vroeg, want sinds enige tijd kun je spreken van een nieuwe onderzoeksrichting naar de New Mobilities Regimes.  Deze wegwijzers volgend komt men bij de omvangrijke bundel (394 p.):  

New Mobilities Regimes in Art and Social Sciences (Susanne Witzgall, Gelinde Vogl, Sven Kesselring, eds., 2013, Farnham UK, Ashgate).

 Over de New Mobilities Regimes later meer, maar nu eerst Art and Social Sciences !   Bij het opzetten van deze site mobilistiek.nl was mijn overweging dat ‘brede kijk op beweeglijkheid’ sterk aan diepgang wint als kunstzinnige en beschouwelijke inbreng aan de wetenschappelijke wordt toegevoegd. En kijk nu eens: ‘art and social sciences’.  

In het inleidende hoofdstuk van Susanne Witzgall: Mobility and the Image-Based Research of Art lezen we het volgende:

Contemporary artists are also dealing to a greater extent with the phenomena of exponentially advancing mobility. They are often enough not only themselves drifters and vagabonds between exhibition venues, trade fairs, and periods of artists-in-residence in a globalized art business, but also explore the conditions and forms of travel, the “geography and politics of mobility,” or scrutinize the promises made by apparently boundless mobility […] They examine the phenomena of tourism, migration, and mobile labor, as well as the structures, sites, and border zones of mobility movements or the influence of new communications technologies on the behavior and mapping of mobile things and individuals. In the process, artistic works can be viewed as an independent form of gaining insight. They often explore that which lies beyond the reach of scientific issues and problems, or what is overlooked and excluded by conventional scientific approaches . The present publication therefore for the first time places the current artistic examination of phenomena of mobility or mobilities regimes as specific arrangements of principles, norms, and rules that control the movement and mobility of people and objects alongside scientific analyses as an independent research achievement, and lends substance to visual representation.
